We would like to remind people of some crime prevention advice following a burglary report in Fleet.
It was reported to us that at around 3.30am on Friday 5 July a house on Knoll Road was broken into and various sets of car keys, house keys, a purse and bank cards were taken.
The occupants were at home at the time of the incident but nobody was injured.
We have been conducting enquiries in the area and are now issuing the following crime prevention advice, in a bid to help protect your property, deter and make life harder for offenders and prevent further crimes of this type.
• Before going to bed, or whenever you are away from your property, ensure that all doors and windows in your home are closed and locked.
• If keys have been taken from your house, change your car and house locks immediately.
• Make sure that your vehicle is properly dead-locked and that the alarm and immobiliser is fully activated.
• If your car does not already have an alarm or immobiliser, consider having a Thatcham-approved product fitted. Speak with your manufacturer before making any modifications.
• Ensure that all car windows and doors are locked at all times. Consider using a tested and approved steering wheel/pedal/gear lock as a deterrent.
• Use a signal blocking pouch, known as a Faraday Bag, to store car keys and if you own a keyless fob then turn off its wireless signal.
• Keep sets of keys away from any windows and doors to prevent them from being "fished" through letterboxes, or seen by opportunist thieves. However, make sure you know where they are in case of fire.
• Consider installing a letterbox deflector.
If you are a victim of burglary, please report it to us at the earliest opportunity.
You can do this by calling 101, or by reporting online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.
