Do you recognise this man?
Officers investigating a suspicious incident in Southampton have today (25 May) released images of a man that they would like to speak with in relation to the incident.
It comes after officers were called out at around 5.15pm on Friday 12 May to a report of a suspicious incident on Oxford Street; where a man is alleged to have been in possession of two knives.
In a video filmed at the time of the incident - which was subsequently shared on social media - shows a man acting suspiciously outside student accommodation. The man can be seen holding two kitchen-type knives, walking up and down Oxford Street before shouting – albeit this doesn’t appear to be aimed at anyone in particular.
We have carried out a number of enquiries to identify and locate the man in the video, but are now turning to the public for their help.
Do you know who the man is? Perhaps you remember seeing the incident?
Anyone with information or who recognises this man is asked to call 101, quoting crime reference number 44230187065. You can also submit information online via our website: How to tell us about an existing case or report | Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary
Alternatively you can contact independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Inspector Tim Williams, said: “We are continuing to carry out extensive enquires in relation to the incident; but if you recognise this man or if you have any information about the incident, then I would please urge you to come forward.
“We appreciate that it will have caused concern in the student community who may have witnessed the incident. Our officers have been on routine patrols in the area and engaging with those who have raised concerns with us.
“We are clear that we will not tolerate members of the public carrying knifes in our communities across the City.
"Even if you don’t believe that you’ll use it, or that you’re carrying it for protection, the consequences of carrying a knife and using it can be catastrophic for those impacted.”
