Officers are appealing for witnesses following an incident at the Tesco store on Wellington Avenue in Aldershot.
At 11.09pm on Monday 15 November, officers were called to the supermarket following reports of an assault inside the premises.
A member of the public, who was not involved in the incident, stepped in and tried to help remove the suspect from the store.
A 47-year-old man, from Aldershot, was later arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and theft from a shop.
He has been released on conditional bail.
