Appeal for witnesses after woman assaulted in Southampton

We are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in Southampton yesterday evening (June 1).

The incident occurred around 6.20pm in Portsmouth Road. A woman in her 30s suffered injuries to her face and upper body.

Officers attended and a 25-year-old man from Southampton, who had been in a car with the woman, was arrested nearby on the Itchen Bridge.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, criminal damage, common assault of an emergency worker and common assault.

Enquiries are ongoing into the exact circumstances of the incident and we are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed it.
