A new and exciting opportunity for people outside of the uniformed police service to join us as detective constables.
The Specialist Entry Detective Programme is your chance to be part of a professional and dedicated team carrying out a variety of crime investigations, including serious and complex cases, cybercrime and other responsibilities. You will be at the forefront of policing innovation as we train, support and encourage you in your role as a detective.
Initially joining as a student police officer, you will complete a structured development programme which will enable you to progress to the role of detective constable, subject to performance.
As a detective constable your duties will encompass a range of investigative activities such as statement taking, securing and reviewing CCTV, log keeping, prisoner interviewing, Offences Taken into Consideration (TICs), intelligence interviews and file building. You will have full Officer in Case (OIC) responsibilities, including attending court and giving evidence. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with reactive and proactive crime teams, public protection, major and serious organised crime and other specialist roles. For those aspiring to be future leaders, the chief constable is committed to regular promotion opportunities.

In order to apply, you must be aged 18 or over, a British citizen or a passport holder from a full EU member state, and hold a full manual driving licence holder
You will have to pass the same application and assessment process as a police officer, and you will then be assessed separately to check your suitability to progress to the role of detective constable.
