Officer concerned: Former DCI Roger Wood
Date: February 17-21, 2025
Summary of allegations
This was despite there being an imbalance of power between them as Person A was 29-years-old and junior in status and DCI Roger Wood was a 38-year-old man, with significant service in the force and occupied a senior position as a detective.
The officer then abused his position in order to develop and then maintain the relationship.
There were also excessive communications with Person B using the chat facility in the force’s Teams application and also messages exchanged whilst at work, the contents of which were inappropriate, had no policing purpose and were unrelated to police business.
Outcome
Allegation 1 was found to be proven and amounted to gross misconduct. Allegation 2 was found to be proven and amounted to misconduct. Collectively the matters amounted to gross misconduct and breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Honesty and Integrity, Authority, Respect and Courtesy, Duties and Responsibilities and Discreditable Conduct.
Sanction
The officer would have been dismissed had he not already resigned. He was placed on the College of Policing Barred List.
