Police are appealing for the victims of an incident in Winchester to come forward.

At around 8.15am on Thursday, December 6 a man witnessed two males stood on the steps in the alleyway between Tower Street and Staple Gardens, near to the Belgarum Place flats.  The witness saw a black woman walk passed the offenders and then heard them make racial comments towards her.  He then saw a white man walk through the alleyway, and the offenders also verbally abused him.

PC Susanna Robinson, said: "The witness found the language offensive and unacceptable and has reported the matter to the police.  We are appealing for the woman and the man who the abuse was aimed at, to come forward and speak to us.

"Were you in the area around the time of the incident?  Did anyone direct this kind of abuse at you?  I would also like to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed what happened or may have other information that could assist the inquiry."

Two 18-year-old men from Winchester have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
