Detectives are continuing to appeal for information from the local community in Andover after an incident involving a five-year-old girl.

Some time between 5.30pm and 7pm on Sunday, September 2, the girl was approached by a young man, described as being aged in his teens, in the area of Dexter Square and Cowdrey Square. The young man is believed to have been wearing a blue t-shirt and riding a blue bike.

He took the girl to an area near the bus stop which is close to the junction with Swallowfields, via Bedser Square and Bradman Square, where he then assaulted her.

Following the assault, it is believed the young man cycled off into the Swallowfields estate and the girl made her way home.

Police have been carrying out extensive enquiries, including house-to-house visits and speaking with all members of the local community since the incident took place.

Detective Sergeant Glenn Curtis, said: "We have had lots of information from people who live in this area but I would encourage anyone who hasn't yet spoken to an officer and has information which could be useful, to get in contact.

"Even the smallest detail could be significant information which could help this investigation. We are treating this as an isolated incident and officers have been conducting reassurance patrols in the area. This will continue this week and into the weekend."

A 21-year-old man from Andover, who was arrested in connection with this incident, has now been released on bail until September 25, pending further enquiries.
