Police are appealing for information following an incident of arson in South Wonston.

Police were called at around 10.30pm on Friday, September 21 following a report of a large barn fire at an address on Stainers Lane, South Wonston.

The damage caused by the fire has been valued at £100,000.

Detective Constable Elaine Cawkill said: "There have been a number of occasions recently where teenagers have been seen in and around barns in the local area.  Earlier on during the evening of the fire, a number of youths were seen in a nearby barn after the owner caught them inside.

"I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to come forward.  Were you in the area on the evening of Saturday, September 22?  Did you see a group of youths in the area or do you have information about who may be responsible?  I would urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to us."

Two 13-year-old boys from Winchester have been arrested on suspicion of arson and released on police bail until November 19.
