Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted as he walked through War Memorial Park in Basingstoke.

The 28-year-old was walking through the park between 5pm and 7pm on Tuesday, September 25, when he was verbally abused by a man.

The man was with two other men who then grabbed the victim's arms while he punched the victim in the chest. The victim received treatment at hospital as a result of the assault.

One of the men is described as white, aged in his early 30s, and about 6ft 1ins tall. He had short brown curly hair and was wearing a grey tracksuit.

Another man is described as white, of a medium build, about 5ft 10ins tall and aged in his late 20s. He was wearing a grey and cream baseball cap, a dark-coloured long-sleeved top jumped and dark-coloured jeans.

Another man is described as shorter than the other two men, of a chubby build, aged in his mid 20s and had a scruffy beard, black moustache, and a piercing above his right eye. He was wearing a white t-shirt.

PC Matthew Chapman said: "This was a nasty assault where a group of men were involved in an assault against a lone man.

"Did you see a group of men in the park or anything suspicious?"
