At about 1.30am on Tuesday, June 5, a 23-year-old man was walking through an alleyway near to the junction between St Michael's Road and Pinkerton Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in the South Ham area of Basingstoke.

At about 1.30am on Tuesday, June 5, a 23-year-old man was walking through an alleyway near to the junction between St Michael's Road and Pinkerton Road.

The victim was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette. When he began rolling a cigarette, the offender threatened him. The victim then ran off and was chased by the offender.

The offender is described as whit, aged between 18 and 24, about 6ft tall and of a stocky build with dark shaved hair and trimmed stubble. He was wearing a navy Adidas tracksuit top and bottoms with grey stripes down the front.

PC David Catchpole said: "Did you see anything unusual in the area? Or someone matching the description?

"Fortunately the victim managed to run off and was not injured."
