While the victim was walking along 'Black Alley' behind Longfield Road, the offender cycled passed on a push bike and grabbed the bag, trying to pull it from the woman. This caused the victim to fall to the floor.

Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery Winchester.

At some time between 7.50am and 8am on Monday, June 11 the victim, who is aged in her early 50s, was walking her dog in Winnal.  It was raining heavily so the victim used an umbrella to cover her face to shield her from the rain.  She was carrying a small blue fabric shopping bag which contained her purse and money.

While the victim was walking along 'Black Alley' behind Longfield Road, the offender cycled passed on a push bike and grabbed the bag, trying to pull it from the woman.  This caused the victim to fall to the floor.

The offender then made off on his bike, empty handed.

The offender is described as:

  • proportionate build
  • wearing a dark coloured hooded top with the hood up and dark colour trousers
  • riding a thin style bike, possibly a racing bike, which was also dark in colour
  • it is unknown if the offender was male or female

PC Glen Willis-Long, said: "Fortunately the offender didn't manage to take anything, however, the victim has been left extremely shocked and upset by what has happened to her.

"Although the alley is fairly secluded, it is used a lot by local people and dog walkers.  It is possible that someone may have seen the offender in the area before or after the incident.  I would urge anyone who saw someone matching the description in the area at the time of the incident, or anyone who has any information to assist the inquiry, to come forward and speak to us."
