Guidance for the Completion of the Property List

The purpose of this Property List is to allow you to provide us with additional information regarding stolen items of your property once the crime has already been reported to us. This form is not the means with which to report the crime itself.

Please record, in as much detail, the items that have been stolen from you. If your items will not all fit on one page just attach more pages of your own.

The more you write on the form the better. Remember we need as much detail about your items as possible so that we have a greater chance of identifying them from any stolen property we recover.

Property is considered ‘identifiable’ if it has a serial number. There may be other ways to identify that property stolen is unique to you and distinct from anybody else’s. If you have such property remember to include what makes you able to say it is yours. Some examples are:

  • A serial number – This is unique to the item
  • UV pen markings – If you have marked the postcode or your details on an item
  • Engraving – For example an item of jewellery that is engraved with your initials or a bike engraved with your postcode
  • Specific marks on an item – such as unique writing on an item of memorabilia / a painting that has a big scratch through it in a certain place

Even if you do not know the serial number of an item still include the make and model e.g. Sony Bravia KDL32V400 40” television Kenwood TT560 2-slice metal toaster.

Include a sketch of an item if you think it will help to show what something looks like that is hard to describe.

If you have photos of the items (such as jewellery) please include these.

Here is an example property list (.jpg 24KB) to give an idea of what detail to include.
