Police investigate murder of a woman in Southampton
Police are currently investigating the murder of a woman in Southampton.
Officers attended a flat in Napier House, Paynes Road, Southampton shortly before midnight on Monday, April 18, following reports of a domestic incident.
Specialist officers, including negotiators, were sent to the scene and soon gained entry to the property.
A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being questioned at Lyndhurst Police Station about the incident by officers from the Force Major Investigation Team.
The body of a 34-year-old woman was found inside the flat. She had sustained stab wounds.
The man is currently in custody and the area around the flat remains sealed off to enable officers to conduct a full investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Fitchet said: “No one else is currently being sought in connection with the incident. Local residents should be aware that officers will be patrolling in the area should they have any concerns.”
