Police in Basingstoke are appealing for information after a smoke bomb was pushed through an elderly woman’s letterbox in the early hours of this morning.

At about 2.30am, the 69-year-old heard a noise at her house in Falkland Road, Basingstoke. When she went downstairs to investigate she found her hallway full of red smoke.

Fortunately she was not injured as a result of this incident, but officers are appealing for help in finding whoever was responsible.

PC Colin Jackson said: “The victim was extremely shaken by this incident and it is fortunate that it didn’t result in a fire.

“This was a wire-pull smoke grenade which is generally used in paintballing. It’s not an over-the-counter firework, so if you know anyone who has access to these sorts of fireworks, please get in touch.”

Can you help?
