Operation Tricot – Update on hit and run on the Isle of Wight
Officers investigating a hit and run incident on the Isle of Wight have recovered a car which is believed to be involved in the crash.
The vehicle is currently being examined by experts.
A 41-year-old man was knocked unconscious by a car when it hit him just before 12.30am on Sunday morning in Trafalgar Road, Newport. The vehicle did not stop.
The man suffered serious head and chest injuries and factures to his legs and remains in Southampton General Hospital.
The man, from Newport, had been at a party nearby when he stepped outside for a short while and was knocked down by the car.
A man has handed himself in at Newport Police Station and is currently helping police officers with their enquiries.
Officers continue to appeal for anyone who saw what happened or saw any vehicles in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
