Police warn young people of the dangers of playing in grain silos
Press Releases
Published:
05/09/2011
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are warning young people of the dangers of playing or hanging around in grain silos on farms.
The warning comes after a farmer from Oakley found a group of boys, thought to be aged in their early teens, apparently playing in his grain silo on Tuesday, August 30.
When he confronted them, they ran off. PC Lee Coleshill said: “Grain silos are not for playing in and can be extremely dangerous. This isn’t a common occurrence, but the implications of playing in silos could be disastrous, leading to serious injury or worse.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind farmers and landowners to check the security of their silos and to take the necessary steps to prevent unauthorised access.”
