Detectives in Basingstoke charge four people in connection with a spate of burglaries in the town
Police in Basingstoke have charged four people with conspiracy to burgle following a spate of burglaries in the town.
Officers from the priority crime unit, the tasking team, CID and the force support unit, carried out search warrants in Freemantle Close, Oakridge, Basingstoke on Thursday, April 21.
Five people were arrested and various items of suspected stolen property were recovered, including some firearms.
Detectives are keen to stress that there is no suggestion that firearms or any other weapons have been used in the burglaries.
Firearms were stolen from one address which was burgled and although some have been recovered, some remain outstanding. Detectives believe they may have been sold on locally.
Anyone who has recently been offered firearms for sale or has been asked to store firearms, is asked to contact police immediately.
Detective Inspector Tim Rowlandson from Basingstoke CID said, "My main objective is to locate and recover the stolen firearms at the earliest opportunity.
“We want to keep the public of Basingstoke safe and it is vital that these weapons are taken off the streets.”
Various items other were stolen from properties, including: a commemorative Royal Wedding plate, wrist watches and some electrical items.
Police are now appealing to people who may have had property stolen to contact them in the hope that some of the stolen property can be returned to its owners.
Anyone with any information about the burglaries, the whereabouts of the firearms or who has had property stolen, is asked to contact Basingstoke CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
