Police issue efit picture of man in connection with Petersfield bogus caller incidents
Police in Petersfield are appealing for help in tracing a man in connection with two bogus caller incidents.
Between 10.15am and 10.45am on Wednesday, November 24, a man gained access to two ground-floor flats in Borough Road, Petersfield, which were occupied by elderly residents.
He claimed to be from the housing association and asked to check the fire alarms in each flat. However, no technicians were booked to check the fire alarms.
Fortunately the man was not given sufficient opportunity to take any items from the flats by the residents, but police believe that both these incidents were attempted burglaries.
The man is described as –
• White
• Aged between 27 and 35
• About 5ft 7ins or 5ft 8ins tall
• Stocky build
• Clean shaven and fresh faced
• Dark-coloured hair
• Was wearing a dirty white or grey jacket and possibly wearing jeans
PC Steve Marriott said: “I would like to hear from anyone who had a similar caller at their home address on or around this time.
“I would also like to remind people to double check ID cards and to make contact with the company who have arranged the visit if they are in any doubt regarding the legitimacy of the caller.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Marriott at Alton Police Station, on 101, or call the charity Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
