Hampshire Constabulary warns of bogus business advertising offers
Hampshire Constabulary has received a number of reports from members of the public who have received unsolicited calls from companies claiming to be selling advertising space in force publications, calendars and diaries.
Those who have chosen to purchase the space and paid up front – in some cases several thousand pounds – have yet to see an example of the finished product or hear back from the company.
Hampshire Constabulary would like to clarify that it does not seek advertising revenue through cold calling. It commissions a single company, Media 3, to sell advertising within the force magazine, Frontline.
Hampshire Police Federation produces diaries and calendars which are sponsored, and the federation never cold-calls.
Businesses and individuals wanting to target an audience through public sector publications like Frontline are advised to approach the publication directly, and not to respond to approaches from third party agencies.
Never agree to buy goods or services as a result of an unsolicited call. If you are suspicious of any caller who is attempting to sell over the phone, get in touch with Hampshire County Council Trading Standards (see below).
We would also urge potential buyers under these circumstances not to part with the full fee up front.
Hampshire County Council Trading Standards has been informed of the matter and is investigating. I
f you think you have become a victim of a scam, report the matter to Trading Standards via Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
