  Detectives seek witnesses after man and woman attacked and robbed in Basingstoke

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man and a woman were the victims of a nasty robbery as they walked home from a pub in Basingstoke.

The man, aged 63, and the woman, aged 50, both from Basingstoke, were walking along Old Worting Road after leaving The Spruce Goose pub shortly after 10pm on Sunday, May 8.

They were approached by two men who punched them both in the face and continued to kick the man when he fell to the ground.

The offenders, who are both white and thought to be in their 20s, then took the woman’s handbag and ran off along Old Worting Road.

The handbag is cream with a silver buckle and from Next. It contained a black Next purse, a pair of Oakley sunglasses, a black Sony Ericsson touch screen mobile phone with a black leather case, a dark blue Nokia C3 mobile phone, a silver Ipod Touch in a pink case, perfume and lipsticks.

Both victims sustained nasty injuries. The man sustained cuts and bruising to his eye area, a fractured eye socket and two broken ribs. The woman sustained a nasty cut to her head, a fractured nose and fractures to both eye sockets.

The first offender is described as about 6ft tall, of large build and was wearing a white hooded top (hood up) and white trainers.

The second offender is described as about 5ft 11ins tall, has medium length dark hair and was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Ben Lee, sad: “This was a vicious attack on two people who were walking home following an evening out. As a result they have sustained severe injuries which required medical treatment.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen the offenders.”
