Police in Basingstoke are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was assaulted as he walked to school.

The 16-year-old boy was walking along a pathway between The Vyne School and Dove House School which connects Sutton Road and Queen Mary Avenue, at about 12.30pm on Monday, June 13.

He noticed someone in a black hooded top with the hood up following him and then two other boys wearing dark-coloured hooded tops with the hoods up approached him and blocked his path.

The boy behind him – who is described as white, very skinny and about 5ft 11ins tall -  then demanded the victim hand over his mobile phone and the two other boys blocked his path. The victim refused to hand it over and was then punched in the face by the boy who had approached him from behind.

The two boys who blocked the victim’s path are described as black, aged 17 or 18, between 5ft 10ins and 6ft. All three boys then ran off towards Gower Close.

PC Steve Smith said: “This is a busy pathway which is a main route between the town centre and Popley and Oakridge, so people may have seen these boys either before or after the incident.

“There is also a field nearby which is regularly used by dog walkers, so I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious.”
