Operation Aida – Elderly woman dies following Alton crash

 Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman died following a crash on the A339 at Bentworth near Alton.

Shortly after 5.15pm on Thursday, February 3, a Volkswagen Polo, driven by a woman in her 70s, was travelling on the A339 from Alton towards Basingstoke.

The car collided with a KIA 4x4, driven by a 48-year-old man from Basingstoke, travelling from Basingstoke towards Alton.

The Volkswagen caught fire immediately after the collision. The woman driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the KIA sustained minor injuries and was taken to North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke for treatment. Police would like to trace the driver of a HGV who may have witnessed the actions of the Volkswagen before the collision.
