Police appeal after arson attack in Alton

Police are appealing for witnesses after an arson attack outside a shop in Alton.

Between 1am and 1.20am on Friday, May 13, large waste bins at the back of the Londis shop in Southview Rise, were set on fire.

Damage was caused to the lower storeys of the building and people living above the shop were put at significant risk of harm.

PC Duncan Filer said: “Fortunately no one was hurt as a result of this fire, but it could have been a very different situation had the fire not been extinguished quickly.

“I am urging anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the Londis shop in the early hours of Friday to contact me.”
