Extra time granted to question a man in connection with Aldershot murder

Detectives from the Major Crime Department have been granted extra time to question a man who was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Magistrates granted officers an extra 32 hours on Thursday (July 21) afternoon, to question a 43-year-old man from Aldershot who was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, July 20.

A 24-year-old, also from Aldershot, who was arrested on Wednesday evening on suspicion of murder, also remains in custody.

The arrests follow an incident in Basing Drive at about 3.15am on Wednesday, July 20.

Andrew Rickwood, aged 45, of Basing Drive, was found with serious injuries and was taken to Frimley Park Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

A murder investigation was launched and two men were subsequently arrested.

Around 30 officers have been working on this case, speaking to witnesses, carrying out forensic examinations and completing house-to-house enquiries.

Safer Neighbourhoods officers have also maintained a reassurance presence within the local community.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Chris Fitchet, said: “We continue to make progress with this investigation but are still appealing for anyone who has any information to come forward.

“We still have some enquiries to carry out in the local community but aim to keep disruption to a minimum and thank those people affected for their co-operation.”
