Police are seeking witnesses to a robbery in a lay-by close to Morrisons supermarket in Deep Lane, Basingstoke.

The incident happened at around 7pm on February 17 as the victims, a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman sat in the man’s silver Ford Fiesta.

Shortly after 7pm three males approached the pair, asking the man for a cigarette.

One of the group then punched him before two others pushed him to the floor and kicked him in the face. Three more males joined the gang.

The gang member who punched the male victim then dragged the female from the car and threatened to kill her. In the struggle one of the gang snapped the car key in the ignition.

The gang then stole the man’s wallet; driving licence; Natwest bank cards; Rolex ring and necklaces before leaving the scene by walking up Deep Lane towards Worting Road.

All the males involved in the attack were white, aged in their early 20s, between 5ft 5ins and 6ft in height and wearing hooded tops and jeans. One had ginger hair and a ginger beard.

They are also reported to have had two rotweiller dogs with them.

DC Catherine Atherton of Basingstoke CID, said: "This was a violent attack and something that is very rare in Basingstoke.

"We’re anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen either the couple or the gang before or after the attack as well as anyone who may have seen the incident itself."
