Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in which the victim was beaten so severely he spent the night in hospital.

The incident happened between 5pm and 6.30pm on March 4 as the victim, a 33-year-old local man, walked along Milton Road, Portsmouth.

Two men approached the victim. One grabbed his arm and demanded money forcing the victim to hand over £30.

One of the men then started to punch and kick the victim several times, knocking him to the floor and kicking him in the head repeatedly.

The victim suffered facial injuries including a broken nose and spent the night under observation at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

The offenders are described as white, both aged 20 to 25 years old and between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins in height.

One had shoulder length curly dark brown hair and both were dressed in dark clothing.

PC Colin Kirby of Cosham Targeted Patrol Team, said: "This was an unprovoked attack which occurred after the victim had handed over his money.

"He was left with a broken nose and significant bruising to his face and required treatment overnight in hospital.

"This happened during a busy part of the day so it’s likely someone saw or heard something. I’d urge anyone with any information about this incident to contact police immediately."

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Colin Kirby at Cosham Targeted patrol Team on 101.

Alternatively call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
