Police are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old man was assaulted on Tuesday, December 22.
At 10.45pm, the man was on London Road, walking to the Co Op shop, when someone approached him from behind and he was hit in the face.
The man was shocked by the unprovoked attack, and only saw that the offender wore dark clothing.
It is thought the man was hit with a weapon, though he did not see what this was. The blow to his face caused a deep cut to his lip.
The man attended the Queen Alexandra hospital, where he received a number of stitches to the wound.
Detective Constable Sarah Lortal said, “This was a sudden and shocking attack which caused a very nasty cut to the man’s lip. Though a weapon was not seen, the extent of the injury sustained suggests it is likely to have been caused by a weapon of some description. The incident happened very close the Co Op on London Road – did you see what happened or see a man running away? If you have any information at all please contact police.”
