Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery at Liss Post Office in Forest Road on December 1.
The incident happened at around 4pm when a Post Office worker, a 63-year-old woman, was confronted by a person wearing a balaclava and brandishing a weapon.
The person demanded cash but left empty handed when the employee said police were on their way.
The would-be robber, thought to be in their late teens or early 20s, fled the shop on a bicycle in the direction of the town centre.
Detective Constable Angela Smith, of Alton CID, said: “This was an unprovoked robbery involving a weapon.
“There were other people in the area at the time of the incident and I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this robbery, or knows who is responsible.
“I’d also like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the location of Forest Road in Liss, or may have seen someone at the bus stop or on a bicycle between the hours of 3:30pm and 4.30pm that day.
"Incidents like this are very rare and it is fortunate that no one was injured.”
Anyone with any information should contact DC Angela Smith at Alton Police Station on 101.
