Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was assaulted on Monday, March 30.
Between 2.45pm and 3.05pm the 33-year-old man was walking down Fratton Road past the John Jacques pub when he heard someone shout out.
The man turned to see who had shouted, and saw a man outside the pub, who was approaching him.
The approaching man appeared to have been drinking and was agitated, and then began punching the man who had been passing by in the face. He punched the man a number of times, before also kneeing him in the face and then running away.
The injured man went into nearby Rowlands Pharmacy to ask for help. He was taken to the Queen Alexandra hospital by ambulance and was treated for cuts to his face and head, and a cracked cheekbone.
The man who caused these injuries is described as:
- White
- 27 years old
- 5ft 10ins tall
- Various tattoos
- Skinhead style haircut
- Some missing teeth
- Wearing a light cream/beige coloured top and jeans
PC Kristin Fuller said, “This is an nasty assault that occurred in broad daylight on a very busy road outside a popular pub. This appeal is for any members of public who witnessed the assault to come forward and provide us with information to help with the investigation."
