Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old boy was attacked on Southampton Common.

The boy had been with friends on Southampton Common in the Children’s Play Park near the Cowherds Pub on Monday, March 2 between 10 and 11pm when they were approached by three youths.

They chatted with the youths for around an hour before they walked off towards Bellemoor Gate. A short while later the victim and one of his friends walked off in the same direction.

The victim then heard a noise and was punched and kicked to the face repeatedly while on the ground by two of the youths who were talking to him and his friends earlier. They demanded his phone and anything else he had on him. T

he victim received serious facial injuries which required hospital treatment and it’s thought he may have a fractured temple.

Both youths were white, aged around 19, 5ft 10ins tall, medium build and spoke with English accents. One had a moustache and black scruffy hair whilst the other had light brown hair that was short in length.  Both were wearing tracksuits, one was Nike and one was Reebok, both dark in colour.

PC Matthew Buck from the Southampton Street Robbery Investigation Team said : “I am appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area around this time who may have seen or heard anything including the third youth in this group who will know the two responsible. This youth was not involved in the robbery and I need to identify him urgently. Apparently, the two males responsible were calling him ‘Squarehead’ whilst chatting to the victim and his friends earlier in the evening.

“I would ask anyone with any information about this crime to call me at Hulse Road on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
