Witness appeal after men attacked in Southampton with wooden sticks by group

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after two men were attacked by a group of men in Southampton.
The two groups had a verbal argument shortly before the incident outside the Red Lion Pub in Bedford Place at around 11.45pm on Saturday, September 20.
A short time later at around midnight, three of the men went off and grabbed some pieces of wood from a skip and started swinging them at the other two men.
One man received minor injuries to his arm and another, aged 19, needed nine stitches to a head wound.
During the incident the men made their way between the Red Lion and Sainsbury’s Local in Bedford Place.
Another 19-year-old-old was arrested nearby in connection with the incident and has since been bailed until Tuesday, November 4.
Officers are now appealing for any witnesses who were in the area at the time to get in contact with them. Bedford Place would have been very busy at the time on a Saturday night and police believe lots of people will remember seeing the men with wooden sticks carrying out the attack.
Anyone who did see it or has any information about the crime is asked to call Detective Constable Owain Davies at Shirley CID on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
