Witness appeal after man attacked by group of youths after robbery in Southampton

Detectives in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked after trying to get his son’s mobile phone back from a group of youths he thought had stolen it.
His 17-year-old son had at around 7.30pm on the same night , Friday, November 14, been robbed of his mobile phone in Mardale Road, Millbrook by a youth who didn’t like the music he was playing on it. He hit the victim then took the phone.
On hearing about what had happened his dad called the police and then went out to try and find the person responsible himself sometime between 8pm to 8.30pm. He came across a group of youths at the cul-de-sac end of Sedburgh Road by the park.
He spoke to them about the phone and after being verbally abusive towards him the youths then attacked him by punching and kicking him to the ground. It’s believed he was also hit with some metal objects.
The 41-year-old eventually managed to get away and made it home where he was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance and was treated for his injuries. He returned home yesterday afternoon, Monday, November 17.
Police have arrested seven youths aged 15 and 16 as part of the investigation. Six have since been released on bail pending further enquiries until later this week. A 15-year-old has been charged with causing actual bodily harm and has been remanded in custody until December when he will next appear in court.
Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the crime to contact them.
They would particularly like to hear from two adults who possibly intervened and helped stop the attack on the man. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable, Owain Davies on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
