Police are appealing for witnesses after two men tried unsuccessfully to rob a shop in Portswood, Southampton.
The pair went into H’s Food and Wine on Portswood Road sometime between 10.30 and 11pm last night, Monday, January 12.
They threatened the owner before one of them picked up two bottles of alcohol. They then demanded cash from the till and the 43-year-old owner was hit on the head with one of the bottles when he refused.
The two men also tried to steal the entire till but when that failed they ran off from the store towards Rigby Road.
Police searched the area and later two men aged 23 and 24 were arrested. They are currently being questioned by detectives.
Anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and thinks they saw the men involved is asked to contact Bitterne CID on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
