Police in Portsmouth are now in a position to clarify more information about an assault on Hampshire Terrace.
The victim, 28, had been enjoying a Friday night out with friends around the Guildhall area of the city centre.
The assault occurred after 2am (Saturday, October 30) as the group were heading past the Hampshire Boulevard bar.
DC Fiona Wright from Portsmouth CID said: “The incident itself was not at all connected to the Hampshire Boulevard.
“Following further enquiries, we can clarify that neither the victim nor the suspects had been drinking in the bar prior to the assault.
“He was assaulted after he went to help one of his friends who had been approached by the group of suspects on the pavement outside the bar.
“The door staff intervened to try and break it up and it’s understood the fight continued around the corner.”
The main suspect is described as:
- white man
- aged 25-30
- 5ft 9ins tall
- skinny build
- short brown hair
- bare-chested (he had taken off his t-shirt)
- speaking with a local Portsmouth accent
One of the other suspects is described as:
- white man
- 25-years-old
- 6ft tall
- short blonde hair
- medium build
- wearing a pink top
DC Wright continued: “We have a good working relationship with the Hampshire Boulevard and the management are helping us with our enquiries.
“I’d like to hear from anyone else who can help, particularly taxi drivers who may have driven past or people walking home from a night out.”
