The summer anti-social behaviour campaign has now ended and the results show a dramatic decrease in the number of incidents compared to last summer.
The three month campaign, led by Hampshire Constabulary and local partners, has seen a decrease in anti-social behaviour incidents of 17 per cent in from July 1, 2009 to September 30, 2009 compared to the same period last year.
Criminal damage offences and calls regarding criminal damage, vehicle nuisance and rowdy and nuisance behaviour have all dropped across Hampshire and the Isle Wight since July 1, 2009 compared to the same period last year.
During July, August and September 2008, there was a total of 32,579 incidents relating to anti-social behaviour. During the same period in 2009 this has reduced to 27,009 incidents across the force, a reduction of 5,570.
The campaign lead Superintendent David Hardcastle said: “We still have a lot of work to do to continue to reduce the levels of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage across the force, however the three month campaign has been a good start and it is great to see that our hard work is seeing a decrease in incidents.
“Anti-social behaviour is a number one priority for Hampshire Constabulary. Our Safer Neighbourhood teams along with partner agencies will continue to work to tackle this issue to ensure that the number of incidents continues to drop.
“Officers and PCSOs across the two counties are working with our partners and local communities to alleviate the issues of anti-social behaviour and we know that reducing ASB is key in making our residents feel safer and more confident.”
As part of this initiative extra police officers and staff have been out on patrol targeting particular hotspot areas and those who which are affected by anti-social behaviour.
All sections of the force have been working as one team during this three month initiative including police officers and staff who aren’t usually involved in frontline policing.
Residents should report any incidents of anti-social behaviour by calling 101.
