Summer anti-social behaviour campaign reduces incidents significantly
Press Releases
Published:
07/09/2010
The summer anti-social behaviour campaign has now ended and the results show a dramatic decrease in the number of incidents compared to last summer.
The three month campaign, led by Hampshire Constabulary and local partners, has resulted in 3272 fewer rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour incidents, which is a reduction of 17 per cent, and 505 fewer incidents of vehicle related nuisance, a reduction of 15 per cent. The campaign ran from May 25, 2010 to August 30, 2010, and figures were compared to the same period last year.
Criminal damage incidents have also dropped by 15 per cent in the three month period compared to last year, equating to 1248 fewer incidents reported.
The campaign lead Assistant Chief Constable Laura Nicholson said: “We still have a lot of work to do to continue to reduce the levels of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage across the force, and during the three month campaign we have been able to improve our current processes to ensure that we are able to continue to improve our response to ASB.
“Anti-social behaviour remains a priority for Hampshire Constabulary and our Safer Neighbourhood teams along with partner agencies will continue to work to tackle this issue to ensure that victims receive the appropriate support and we continue to reduce ASB.
“Officers and PCSOs across the two counties are working with our partners and local communities to alleviate the issues of anti-social behaviour and we know that reducing ASB is key in making our residents feel safer and more confident.”
As part of this initiative extra police officers and staff have been out on patrol targeting particular hotspot areas and those who which are affected by anti-social behaviour.
A similar ASB campaign ran in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight last summer which saw incidents of ASB drop by 17 per cent compared to the same three month period in 2008.
All sections of the force have been working as one team during this three month initiative including police officers and staff who aren’t usually involved in frontline policing.
Residents should report any incidents of anti-social behaviour by calling 101.
