Statement re light aircraft crash near Petersfield

At 12.32 today, the alarm was raised by a member of the public after a light aircraft crashed in a field in Steep, near to Petersfield.
The aircraft was a Piper, fixed wing, single engine craft. It was a private craft on a flight from London to Jersey. There were two people on board, one man and one woman, both of whom have been confirmed dead at the scene
The scene is currently cordoned off while emergency services investigate the crash, however no roads in the area have been affected.
