Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed near Basingstoke College of Technology on Tuesday evening (August 23).
Some time between 9.30pm and 9.45pm, a 23-year-old man was walking along Worting Road and as he passed the Downsland Parade of shops a man called out to him from the other side of the road asking if he had a cigarette, crossing the road to walk behind the man as he did.
The victim replied no and carried on his journey and as he did he became aware of a second man on the other side of the road who also called out to him. As he did the victim was grabbed from behind and punched.
The man took the victim’s wallet – containing a small amount of change which was removed – and then threw the wallet back to the victim.
The victim was treated at North Hampshire Hospital for minor injuries to his head.
The victim has provided a description of the man who is believed to have grabbed him:
- White
- Aged 17-18 years of age
- Well built
- About 6ft tall
- Wearing a black hooded top with the hood pulled up, dark trousers and black gloves.
