Possible shell found in Southsea
Press Releases

Placed on the voicebank at 12:39 on Oct 3:
"At 11.39am police in Portsmouth received a call from a member of the public who hadfound what they believed to be an artillery shell on the beach in Southsea. Officers attended and were unable to ascertain if the item was dangerous and have called the bomb disposal team, who are due to arrive on the scene in the next 4-5 minutes. Although the exact location of the item is unknown it is near to 'Rocksbys' which is on Clarence Esplanade. As a precaution a cordon has been set up, which is effective between the Pyramids Centre and Southsea Pier, and the road at the back of the rock gardens has also been closed off. Until a full assessment has been carried out by the bomb disposal team we cannot confirm how long the cordon will be in place for. As soon as we have any further information for you we will update the tape.
"Thank you."
