Police update on woman found dead in Portsmouth

Press Releases

Published: 15/04/2009

Police are now in a position to name the woman found dead at her home in Portsmouth on Monday, April 13.

Samantha Jones, 31, was discovered inside the property in Wells Close at around 8pm.

Toxicology work is continuing to establish a cause of death, following the post mortem which took place yesterday.

Detective Inspector Darren Rawlings said, “This was a sudden death, but also an unexplained death, of a young and healthy woman who was found with no obvious signs of injury.

“Such a tragic incident will of course have an effect on the local community; however this has been heightened by the recent inaccurate reports made by some of the media, causing unnecessary distress.

“I want to stress that we have not said that this was a violent incident; we are continuing to investigate what happened, and we are treating the death as unexplained at this time.

“We are continuing our appeal for information, and in particular would ask anyone who knew Samantha socially to contact us. We are keen to piece together her movements in the days before she died. If you saw her between Wednesday, April 8 and Monday, April 13, or perhaps knew where she may have visited and with whom, please contact us.

“I would also like to remind people what a difficult and sad time this is for Samantha’s family, who have asked to be left alone to grieve in peace.”

A 47-year-old man arrested on Monday evening has been released on police bail, to return on July 14.
