Police statement re sentencing of James Chester
Press Releases
Published:
09/09/2008
Following the sentencing at Portsmouth Crown Court today of James Chester, who pleaded guilty in July 2008 to abduction of a child and having sexual activity with a child under 16, the officer in charge of the case issued the following statement outside of court.
Detective Constable Dave Higgins said: “We are satisfied with today’s result. The series of events which led to the conviction of James Chester has affected many lives, and this sentence will hopefully bring some closure for all those involved.
“Today sees the end of what has been a long and complex case, and has involved agencies not only in Hampshire, but also in Doncaster and Northern Ireland, as well as much of Europe. I would like to extend my gratitude to all those who have contributed for their dedication and professionalism throughout.
“I would also like to thank both families involved, who have cooperated with us wherever necessary and acted with understanding during what has been an extremely difficult time for them all.
“Thank you.”
