Detectives are releasing CCTV images of two men after a woman had her handbag snatched in Marmion Road, Southsea.

At 9.20pm on Saturday, August 30, a 28-year-old woman from Southsea was walking along Marmion Road towards Victoria Road South.

As she approached the junction with Richmond Road a man who was behind her grabbed her handbag and attempted to pull it from her.

The woman tried to keep hold of the bag but the man managed to pull it free and ran towards Victoria Road South, followed by another man who had been with him.

The handbag was a clutch style bag, which was black and had silver and grey tartan material on it. It contained a wallet, with numerous personal cards inside, £40 in cash, keys and cigarettes.

The men are described as:

Man 1 (who took the bag):

  • Black
  • Over 6 ft tall
  • Aged in his early 20s
  • Athletic build
  • Short dark hair
  • Wearing a black long sleeved top and dark trousers

Man 2:

  • Black
  • Around 6ft tall, but shorter than the first man
  • Slim build
  • Dark hair in a dreadlocked style, around 1inch long
  • Wearing a long sleeved top with horizontal stripes in yellow and a darker colour

Detective Constable Toby Wilson said, “Though the images do not clearly show the faces of these men it does show their clothing, which may help jog someone’s memory if they saw them at all that evening. Anyone with any information should contact police as soon as possible.”
