Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary’s Bitterne CID are renewing an appeal for a missing man who needs urgent treatment for a life-threatening disease.

Matthew David Lloyd, aged 35, of Shirley Road, Shirley, Southampton, did not turn up for a medical appointment in Oxford on the afternoon of Thursday, October 7, 2010.

Mr Lloyd was due to receive treatment for malaria after volunteering to take part in an authorised medical trial, which is being carried out in Oxford, London and Southampton.

He is described as: White with short brown hair, of medium build with a swarthy complexion.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Dave Jackson of Bitterne CID said:  “Our concerns for Matthew’s health are increasing because he needs urgent medication, which he does not have with him. Matthew phoned in sick to work prior to his appointment in Oxford, but there have been no confirmed sightings of him for several days.

“I would like to thank everyone who has given information to the police so far. We believe Matthew has travelled to the London, Birmingham and Milton Keynes areas in the past few days. Further enquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding these possible leads. Matthew is also known to have connections in Cornwall, Avon and Somerset.

“We are appealing again for anyone who sees Matthew or who has information about his whereabouts to contact police as soon as possible. Even the smallest detail could prove crucial in finding Matthew so he can receive his life-saving medication in time.

“I would also like to appeal directly to Matthew to come forward so that all his friends, family and colleagues who are worried about him can be sure he’s safe and well.”

Matthew Lloyd or anyone with any information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Bitterne CID by phoning 0845 045 45 45. In an emergency, dial 999.

Hampshire Constabulary, the NHS, and Health Protection Agency would like to reassure members of the public that Matthew poses no risk to anybody else’s health. People should not be concerned about approaching him if they are nearby.
