Detectives are today renewing their appeal for information with the release of CCTV images, after a man was robbed and another assaulted in Kingston Road, at the junction with Lake Road, Portsmouth.

Between 12.30am and 12.45am on Saturday, July 5, a 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, both from Fratton, were walking along Kingston Road when they were approached by a group of four men.

The two men and the group began talking and continued to walk on. As they neared Hale Court, which is close to the junction of Hampshire Street, they stopped walking, and the atmosphere changed.

One of the men from the group reached out, drawing close to the 22-year-old man and taking hold of the gold chain around his neck and pulling, breaking it. As he did so, the 22-year-old felt something sharp pressed against him, though he suffered no injury.

The man who had been wearing the gold chain managed to get away to call for help, and another member of the group assaulted the 23-year-old man causing an injury to his face, before the group left.

Detective Constable Jo Morris said, “We are circulating these images in order to try and identify the man shown wearing dark trousers and the long sleeved white top. We believe he may have seen what happened or been involved somehow and would like to speak to him as soon as possible to clarify what happened. I would appeal to anyone who recognises this man or who has any other information about the incident to get in contact with police.”

Can you help?

A 23-year-old man from Fratton and a 30-year-old man from Portsmouth have both been arrested and released on bail in relation to this offence.
