Officers investigating an incident where a purse was stolen from a woman’s handbag while shopping in Asda in Eastleigh have released images of three people they want to speak to.

At around midday on Wednesday, October 19, a 68-year-old woman from Romsey was shopping in Asda when she was approached by a man who began talking to her about the items she was looking at. She did not know the man.

She later noticed that her purse and address book had been taken from her bag. It is thought the man was distracting the woman by talking to her while her purse was taken.

The purse contained £70 in cash, bank cards and photos.

CCTV images from the store show the man and two women he was with.

He man is described as:

  • Of Asian appearance
  • Very strong accent
  • Tall
  • Short dark hair
  • Wearing a white shirt, a tie and a zip up jumper, left open, all under a long black woollen coat

PC Victoria Carter said, “The images we are releasing are very clear and we hope that someone may recognise the people in them. The man shown spoke to the woman whose purse was stolen and was also seen with both the other women in these pictures, and if anyone can identify any of them we’d ask them to get in touch.”
