Police organised alcohol awareness event for youngsters being held in Southampton during half term

Following the success of the first SKAA event (Southampton Kids Alcohol Awareness) in April this year a second one is being held, this time at Oceana in Leisure World during half-term.

Youngsters aged 11-16 have the chance to go to visit Southampton’s second ever police organised SKAA event on Thursday, October 29 with a free dance party in the evening.

The event is being held this time at Oceana at Leisure World, Southampton. It is a fun and interactive day of activities aimed at informing youngsters about the dangers from drinking too much alcohol. It looks at safety, health and the consequences of crime.

There will also be lots of organisations there many offering activities to young people. Those going include: Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue, No Limits, The Star Project, and Southampton City Council. There will also plenty of interactive things to do on the day with Solomon Theatre Group, and personal safety trainers from Hampshire Constabulary, offering workshops and sessions.

Inspector Lisa Stevens, who has been overseeing the organising of the event, said: 'Due to the success of our first SKAA event in April we are running a second, Halloween themed, event during half tem. The event is aimed at educating young people about the issues connected to the misuse of alcohol and empowering them to make well informed decisions and choices.

"We will also this time be aiming to get some clear messages across about anti-social behaviour, which can often be linked into alcohol. This will be an exciting, interactive day, attended by many different agencies and will culminate in the young people attending the alcohol free, under 18 night at Oceana to dance the night away”

Tickets for the event have been available through schools for £3 and will also be available on the day from Oceana during the event which runs from 10am to 2pm on Thursday, October 29. They will also being available from Monday 26rth - Wednesday 28th October from Oceana at Leisure World. We will have an officer in the area selling tickets between 10am - 3pm.

They will also Anyone who attends the daytime event can attend the evening under 18s Halloween themed dance party at Oceana for free featuring MCs, break and street dancing. 

The alcohol free event dance party is also part of showing youngsters how they can have a really good time without alcohol and will be supervised by police officers and other suitable personnel. The previous event held at the Guildhall in April was attended by over 600 youngsters and proved a big hit.
