Police name A339 crash victim
Police have named the elderly victim of a crash on the A339 near Bentworth, Alton.
At about 9.05am on Friday, April 9, a silver Citroen Xsara Picasso came off the road and collided with a tree at Waterworks bend on the Alton to Basingstoke road.
Rita June Barzotelli, of Elmwood Close, Alton, was driving from Alton to Basingstoke, when the crash happened.
The 70-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her passenger, a 65-year-old woman also from Alton, was taken to North Hampshire Hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with serious injuries.
A large section of the road was closed while officers investigated the collision and local diversion routes were put in place.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and would like to speak to a motorcyclist who may have passed the scene shortly after the crash.
