Police are making another appeal for information after a man was racially abused and assaulted in Portsmouth.

There are two CCTV images showing a group who were very close to where the assault took place which were released last week, and it is now believed these people may have been involved.

The assault took place just after midnight on Sunday November 29. A 21-year-old from Fratton was walking along Garnier Street when he was approached by two men and two women who shouted racial abuse at him.

He was then kicked and punched to the floor, and his iPod and mobile phone were stolen.

Members of the public from a nearby house heard what happened and raised the alarm, calling police and an ambulance.

The man was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital where he was treated for serious facial injuries, which will require surgery.

Detective Constable Mel Sinclair said: “We have been carrying out extensive enquiries following this incident and now believe that the three people shown in these images may in fact be responsible for the attack. We are urging anyone who recognizes these people to come forward and help us identify them as soon as possible.”
