Police issue witness after man is robbed in Portsmouth

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed outside his home in Somers Road, Somers Town, Portsmouth.

Just before midnight, Sunday, January 11, a 55-year-old man was returning home from work. As he went to the front of the block of flats where he lives he was approached from behind by two men.

The two men grabbed him and pulled him backwards to the floor. They searched his pockets and took £200 in cash.

The men then ran away in the direction of Winston Churchill Avenue.

The men are described as:

  • Both white
  • One was 6ft tall
  • Aged about 30
  • Medium build
  • Wearing a black jacket with hood
  • The other was 5ft 8 tall
  • Larger build
  • Wearing dark clothes and a ski mask

Detective Sergeant Tony Lewis who is investigating said: “We would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area at this time of this robbery. “Did you see two men running away from Somers Road towards Winston Churchill Avenue? Please contact us if you have any information which could help our investigation. We have a number of line of enquiry which we are pursuing-including looking at CCTV from the area.”
