Press Releases

Police are urging residents to be extra careful when leaving windows and doors open or unlocked after a number of burglaries in Bitterne.

People are reminded that it only takes a moment for an opportunist thief to take items through open doors or windows, so if you are upstairs or in a different room, ensure you have not allowed access to unwanted visitors to the rest of your home.

  • Sunday, September 5 between 7.30pm and 8.50pm a handbag was stolen from the kitchen of an address in McNaughten Road while the homeowner was in the lounge.
  • On Sunday, September 5 between 3pm and 10.30pm an intruder entered a house on Summerset Avenue through the back door whilst the owners were still in the property. Jewellery and a small amount of cash were stolen.
  • Between 10pm on Tuesday, September 6 and 6.30am on Wednesday, September 7 an unknown suspect gained entry to a house on Cornwall Road whilst the residents were still inside their property.

Several items were stolen from the premises including keys, money, bank cards and the owners’ car from the front drive.
